Card Creation Fee
Creating a Payora Virtual Dollar Card costs $3.5.
This fee includes:
- $1 usable balance added directly to your card
- Card issuance and provider setup costs
This means you can start using your card immediately after creation without needing to fund it first.
Funding & Conversion Fee
When you fund your virtual card using Naira, a conversion fee of 1.5% is applied.
To ensure fairness and affordability, this fee is:
- Capped at ₦2,500 per transaction
This fee covers:
- Currency conversion (NGN → USD)
- Provider processing costs
- Network charges
By capping the fee, we protect users making larger transactions from excessive charges.
Withdrawal Fee
While Payora cards are primarily designed for payments, users may choose to withdraw funds from their card.
- Withdrawal fee: $1 per transaction
This fee helps cover:
- Provider withdrawal processing costs
- Card network handling fees
💡 Tip: If you no longer need your card, you may choose to terminate it instead — this can often be more cost-effective.
Card Termination Policy
If you decide to stop using your card, you can terminate it and receive your remaining balance (subject to a small fee).
Termination fees are structured to reward long-term users:
- Cards less than 6 months old: $1 fee
- Cards older than 6 months:
→ 5% of remaining balance, capped at $0.7
In cases where the remaining balance is very small:
- If the balance is less than the applicable fee, no refund will be issued
This policy ensures sustainability while still being fair to users.
Cross-Border & FX Charges
When you use your card on platforms outside the United States or in non-USD currencies, additional charges may apply.
These include:
- Cross-border transaction fees
- Currency conversion (FX) fees
These charges are set by card networks (Visa/Mastercard) and not directly by Payora.
Declined Transactions & Insufficient Funds
If a transaction fails due to insufficient funds, it may still incur a cost from our providers.
This is because:
- Card processors attempt to authorize the transaction
- Each attempt carries a backend cost
To protect users and reduce unnecessary charges:
Protection Measures
- Cards may be automatically frozen after a failed transaction due to insufficient funds
- Repeated failed attempts may result in permanent card termination
Best Practices
- Always ensure your card is sufficiently funded
- Remove unused or inactive subscriptions (Netflix, Apple, etc.)
- Monitor recurring payments
Why These Fees Exist
It’s important to understand that Payora does not operate in isolation. Every transaction involves:
- Card issuing providers
- Payment processors
- Global card networks
These entities charge fees for:
- Card issuance
- Transaction processing
- Currency conversion
- Failed authorization attempts
At Payora, our goal is to:
- Keep fees as low as possible
- Maintain full transparency
- Provide a reliable and secure payment experience
